2020 brought a newly revitalized focus to the connections of sports and activism, but for WNBA champion and Olympic medalist Tina Charles, this year simply amplified her ongoing commitment to social justice and activism. Queens born and raised, Charles' support for the Black Lives Matter movement received national attention in 2016 and she is the founder of non-profit organization Hopey’s Heart. Just this fall she partnered with Queens-based community organization Together We Can to provide diapers and food to families in need. Charles, whose WNBA career has included a stint on New York Liberty, will discuss her perspective as a New Yorker, her basketball career, and her activism with historian Theresa Runstedtler.

It was Bob Marley’s last tour before his tragically early death in May 1981 at the age of just 36. The tour was in support of the “Uprising” album released on June 10th 1980. A few days later on June 13th the live show from Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle was filmed for the famous German music TV series Rockpalast and is presented here for the first time with footage restored to the best possible quality. Bob Marley and the Wailers are on superb form and deliver a set of hit singles and classic album tracks. Marley’s energetic, charismatic performance gives no indication that he was already ill with the cancer that would take his life less than a year later. With very few Bob Marley live concerts available this will be a welcome addition for any fan. (Available 24/11/2014)

From the late 1940s, Kuomintang, defeated by the communists, started relocating soldiers from Mainland China to the then-province of Taiwan. For higher-ranking officers or lucky ones, families were brought along. For the less privileged, what was imagined by these soldiers to be a temporary separation from families back home, harbouring hopes of returning, history unfortunately had them stuck in Taiwan for the rest of their lives.
