In this virtual gallery conversation, three artists featured in the UAMA online exhibition "Picturing 2020: A Community Reflects" – Randiesia Fletcher, Em Miller and Kathleen Dreier – talk about their work in the exhibition and its relationship to activism and radical self-care.
2019-2020 Fellow Spoma Jovanovic presented a workshop that considered the critical skills, knowledge, and cultural values we can teach in the classroom to cultivate and support students who want to enter the political arena with principled organizing and actions. Students’ interests in moral crises have surfaced nationwide. For many, it is their first foray into civic action. Topics covered included how to use recently produced (short!) videos and discussion guides of grassroots activists to explore the bridge between academic scholarship and public debates surrounding the economic, political, racial, and cultural dimensions of public life.

Green Beret David Christian was unquestionably a war hero in the Vietnam war and as he says, fought valiantly on behalf of the USA. My team and I conducted more than 200 interviews in 1989 from people who had lived through the 1960s and had strong feelings about what they had witnessed and lived through, not only during the war, but in the 1950s growing up and in the time since that war has ended. David Christian was wounded 7 times receiving 7 purple hearts as well as the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism. When he returned from the war, he worked as he does today, to help Vietnam veterans. Bill Ehrhardt, who presents his story in my very popular video clip, “Magnificent Storyteller Soldier” shared his personal experience. Many of my subscribers have reacted to it. I feel that David Christian is an equally powerful storyteller whose war perceptions and experiences were quite different. In this video he reflects on his early upbringing in the 1950s, his Catholicism, his powerful relationship with his mother, his experiences with college protesters in the antiwar movement, his return to America and his battles to help his fellow veterans deal with PTSD, job opportunities and other issues that they have confronted. His story evolves during the interview as he expresses more and more deeply, how he felt and what he saw and how he dealt with it.

For people concerned with the lack of positive art in our communities, Hip Hop For Change Inc. is the nonprofit that educates and empowers all people with a platform to express themselves through the arts while teaching society about the power of Hip Hop Culture.
Abstract:
Many Non-Profit organizations around the globe aim to influence social change and improve communities. A method these activists can use to help educate others about their message, mobilize their communities and cause social change is digital activism.
Digital Activism uses digital communication tools to achieve goals of social change. Successful social change campaigns often incorporate creativity and interactivity with a meaningful message for the community.
Let's explore successful strategies for digital activists:
1. Have goals and assess outcomes. Organizations must develop a strategy to achieve their goals, conduct research and assess the outcomes of the campaign efforts to succeed in their digital activism campaign.
2. Provide incentives to bring supporters in & give them a reason to stay. Consider the user's experience and play with digital tools & social media to make communication personal and meaningful.
3. Reinforce traditional means of activism.
4. Mobilize & inspire your followers. Communicating the organization's message and inspiring your followers to mobilize behind that message is by far the most important element of a digital activism campaign.
Clearly, digital activists face many challenges including, but not limited to: Internet user passivity, authenticity, online security, and information overload. These are all very real hurdles activists face, but they are not impossible to overcome.
Understand that your successful digital activism campaign will be comprised of personal sacrifice, great discomfort & wonderful learning opportunities. You will also need brilliant creative thinking to light the fire of social change.

Grant writing for a nonprofit organization? In this video I show how I’d approach a real grant application for a nonprofit. #Nonprofits #Grants #Nonprofit
Whether you’re starting a nonprofit organization or fundraising for an existing nonprofit, grants are one of many options for funding or expanding special project or program. Still, writing grants can be tough and confusing! I’ve written over 100 grants throughout my nonprofit work - won some and lost some, and learned a lot about how to write grants along the way.
In this video I show how I’d approach writing a grant proposal for the Max & Victoria Dreyfus Foundation.
I hope this helps as you undertake nonprofit fundraising!

Choose the right blouse: The blouse you wear with your cotton silk saree can make a big difference in how you look. Opt for a well-fitted blouse that complements the saree's color and design. You can choose a blouse with a contrasting color or one that matches the saree's color.
Pick the right accessories: Accessories can help elevate your look, so choose them wisely. You can opt for traditional jewelry, such as gold or silver bangles, earrings, and necklaces, or modern ones that match the saree's color and design. Make sure to keep your accessories minimal and not overpower the saree.
Drape it well: The way you drape your saree can make a huge difference in your overall look. There are many different draping styles, so choose one that suits your body type and personal style. You can also experiment with different styles to see which one works best for you.
Shoes matter: Your shoes can make or break your look, so choose them carefully. High heels work well with sarees, but make sure they're comfortable enough for you to walk in. You can also opt for flats or sandals if you prefer.
Confidence is key: Ultimately, the key to looking good in a cotton silk saree is confidence. Wear your saree with confidence, and you're sure to turn heads!

In a nationwide raid, 25 suspected members and supporters of a terrorist organization were arrested early Wednesday. Officials said the network, part of a wider right-wing movement, was already well established with a concrete plan to overthrow the German state by force and install a new government.
Prosecutors identified the suspected ringleaders only as Heinrich XIII P. R. and Ruediger v. P., in line with German privacy rules. The news magazine Der Spiegel reported that the former was a well-known 71-year-old member of a minor German noble family, while the latter was a 69-year-old former paratrooper.
According to prosecutors, Heinrich XIII P. R., who the group planned to install as the new leader of Germany, had made contact with Russian officials seeking to establish a new order in Germany once the Berlin government was overthrown. A Russian woman, Vitalia B, had allegedly given him help with this. The Russian embassy in Berlin denied having links to far-right terror groups.
A currently-serving soldier in the Bundeswehr's Special Forces Command (KSK) as well as several Bundeswehr reservists are also among suspects in the case, a spokesperson for Germany's Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD) told the DPA news agency. A search was reported to have been carried out at the soldier's home and his barracks office in the state of Baden-Württemberg.
The trigger for the raids was an investigation into another Reichsbürger group that had planned to kidnap German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach.
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said the case revealed the threat posed by the Reichsbürger movement. The president of the German parliament's lower house, Bärbel Bas, said the operation shows "that our democratic constitutional state is attentive and capable of action."
The group had targeted members of the Bundeswehr and police for their wanted to win their goals. It had formed a "military arm" and a council presided over by Heinrich XIII P. R. To implement their plans the group's members were prepared to use military means and violence against state representatives and were willing to kill to achieve their goals. According to the investigators, the members of the group "followed a conglomerate of conspiracy myths consisting of narratives of the so-called 'Reichsbürger' as well as QAnon ideology." The prosecutors added that the group's adherents believe Germany is ruled by a so-called "deep state," similar to baseless claims about the United States that were made by former President Donald Trump. The Reichsbürger movement is made up of a number of small organizations and individuals, mainly in the states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Bavaria. They do not accept the legality of the Federal Republic of Germany or any of its government authorities. The movement argues that the German constitution prior to World War II was never properly nullified and that the formation of the former West Germany in 1949, and now reunified Germany, was therefore never valid.
