I pitched this idea in February 2018 and had the privilege of working with a number of my classmates and 3rd-year assistants. They each brought so much talent and enthusiasm to telling this story and I couldn't have been more fortunate to have them as my team. Please stay for the credits and look them up!
Fox Fires is inspired by the Finnish folk tale of the aurora borealis. The film blends 2D and 3D animation together.
Thank you so much to my composer, Denny Schneidemesser, for all of his help in bringing the film together and for scoring the work so beautifully. I've admired Denny's work since I first watched animated shorts on YouTube and decided to pursue animation myself, having him on board was a dream come true.

CGI 3D Animated Planet Unknown Short Film by Shawn Wang. Featured on http://www.cgmeetup.net/home/p....lanet-unknown-short-
At the end of the 21st century mankind were facing global resource depletion. Space Rovers were sent out to find potential inhabitable planets.
Planet Unknown is a passion project from director Shawn Wang. Animated over eleven months it was the final project for Shawn’s course at the Communication University of China. The attention to detail is exceptional with jaw dropping renders. Both the pace of the film and the use of shots is impeccable.
Planet Unknown recently won Best Animated Short at the Burbank International Film Festival.
Software's: Cinema 4D, plugin TurbulenceFD and Octane for C4D were heavily used for most of the tasks. Houdini was used to fracture things. Then Zbrush for sculpting, Mari for texturing, After Effects for compositing, and Premiere for editing. Python and JavaScript were used for scripting in C4D, Mari and AE, which helped speed up the process a lot.
It took around 4 months to build the 3D assets. Then Shawn moved on to animatic previews. Each individual shot got more clear and problems to solve became more specific. Then the rest of the time were mainly focused on building scenes, keyframe animation, FX simulation, rendering and compositing.
Director biography: Shawn Wang is an animation director and 3D artist. Having a passion for CGI and storytelling, Shawn loves creating narrative visuals through all types of media.

Two male, glowing creatures start a fight over trying to impress a female. Each one of them wants to win her over by giving a better light show than his competitor.
"Shine"' is a visual love story showing the importance of healthy competition. The film shows that it is not always the strongest, fastest or most attractive that wins as sometimes it is the inner light that shines the brightest. The film brings a fresh perspective to the age-old story of men vying for the love of a beautiful woman, however in this instance, the men are two furry creatures who battle with the power of self-illumination. The battle to glow brightest is intense and the combat fierce. They are on fire... until one gets burned!

Let’s Eat is a 8 minute animated short film that centers on the relationship between a mother and daughter in a Chinese-American immigrant family. Let’s Eat strives to be a universal story told through a distinctly Asian-American voice.
As a single parent in an unfamiliar country, Ma’s entire life centers around raising Luan, her rambunctious young daughter. Likewise, Luan spends her childhood indulging in endless quality time with her playful, loving mother. However, as Luan grows up, it isn’t long before daily life interferes and causes mother and daughter to grow apart. By channeling their feelings into cooking, the two strive to find their way back to each other, one homemade meal at a time.
Ma and Luan’s tale touches upon mother-daughter relationships, the American immigrant experience, and the unspoken translation of love into food - familiar themes reflected through a fresh perspective often overlooked in mainstream media. We at Anamon Studios aim to share in our similarities as much as we celebrate our differences, and to this end we hope that Let’s Eat will resonate with audiences of all backgrounds and experiences.

The film takes place 75 million years ago in Cretaceous Alberta and follows a male lambeosaurus searching for a mate during the changing spring season.
This is the third short film in my "Dinosauria Animated Series" and was the most difficult film of the series so far.
I'm really happy with how it turned out though. I'm particularly proud of the atmosphere and visuals on display. I think this might just be the prettiest film I've ever made! The backdrops are certainly the most detailed I've ever produced for a short film and I don't think I've ever been this ambitious with my colour-use before.
This film paints a serene but bittersweet world that I'm really, really proud of! ^_^
