In this video, I show you how to hold your drum sticks with the matched grip style. This involves grabbing the stick with your index finger and thumb about three quarters of the way down the drum stick. Then, you must curl the rest of your fingers around the stick in a comfortable position.

The three versions of matched grip are the French, German, and American style. The French style of matched grip involves your palms facing each other. The German style involves your palms facing the ground. The American style is basically a hybrid of both; your palms are basically at a 45 degree angle.

Holding your drum sticks with matched grip in mind is really easy! Follow the instructions in the video and you'll have it mastered in no time!

In this insightful talk, Nat explains why we shouldn't call out hypocrites, and what to do instead. Too often, Nat says, we use the hypocrisy of others as an excuse for inaction, and charity as an excuse to do anything. We target charitable messengers and avoid critiquing charitable messages. Nat argues that the exact opposite should be true. He explains that the people we call hypocrites often aren't actually hypocritical. Their hypocrisy is an illusion. As such, focussing on the hypocrisy of the messenger is inaccurate and misguided. Instead, Nat argues that we should focus on the validity of the message because this helps to maximize impact. We should not target charitable messengers, and critiquing charitable messages should no longer be taboo. Nat challenges us all to "rebut the message not the messenger" because what matters more than doing an action is the impact of that action. According to Nat, small minds rebut people but great minds rebut arguments!

Nat Ware is an entrepreneur, economist, and international development specialist. He is the Founder and CEO of 180 Degrees Consulting, the world's largest consultancy for non-profits and social enterprises, with branches in 28 countries and over 4000 consultants worldwide. Each year 180 Degrees works with hundreds of socially-conscious organizations to help them to operate more effectively and have a greater social impact (www.180dc.org). Nat is a Rhodes Scholar, Goldman Sachs Global Leader, St Gallen Leader of Tomorrow, and World Economic Forum Global Shaper. He was the Top MBA Student at Oxford, received the Convocation Medal for Best All-Rounder at Sydney University, was the Top Economics and Business Student at Sydney University (1/4000 students), and has lectured the postgraduate course 'Innovation, Strategy and Global Business'.

Nat is committed to using entrepreneurial approaches and economic thinking to solve social and environmental challenges. He is a frequent keynote speaker at international conferences and events. His other TEDx talks are "Why We're Unhappy: The Expectation Gap" (

A wide range of Americans contributed to the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s. Students and young people were prominent groups of activists within the movement. Today, we'll learn about the Little Rock Nine, the Greensboro Four, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and the Freedom Riders. These groups undertook protests and worked to integrate schools and public accommodations by riding segregated buses, demanding service at lunch counters, and even by simply attending school.

Sad photos and depressing statistics can only get a charitable campaign so far, especially in a world with “skip” buttons and commercial-free streaming. Ian Smith invites his audience to explore creative, artistic, and hilarious campaign strategies, all while discussing how valuable it can be to rely on inspiration rather than guilt when targeting a broad audience. Ian Smith has been hosting community events and leadership dialogues across Texas since 2010, when he co-founded and expanded his dorm-room idea into a registered 501c3 non-profit. The Human-Environmental-Animal-Team (H.E.A.T.) started as a small club aiming to make volunteering fun. Within one year, the club won a cash grant and the title of “Organization of the year” from Texas State University. Since its creation in 2010, Ian has founded eight chapters at universities and high schools across Texas. Ian also founded and currently manages a successful abroad program focusing on reforestation and restoration of coral reefs throughout Asia and Central America. Outstanding members from H.E.A.T. chapters have taken positive activism to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Thailand and Indonesia, changing the lives of attending students. The various H.E.A.T. chapters across Texas partake in physical volunteer work and have had many successes in launching creative awareness and fundraising campaigns. a. GUAVA JELLY

Baby, I really, really love you now.
I think you should stop your cryin';
Here my kerchief to dry your eyes,
You know that I love you, yea-eah-eah.
Groovy; here I am:
Come rub it 'pon me belly
Like a guava jelly.
Damsel, here I stand:
Come rub it 'pon me belly
Like-a guava jelly.

b. THIS TRAIN

This train - mm - mm - mm;
This train is bound to glory - this train;
Talkin' 'bout ma: this train is bound to glory - this train:
This train is bound to glory,
This train carry no un'oly;
This train - I'm a-talkin' 'bout: this train.

When I was just a kid,
My mommy used to sing this song.
Now I've grown to be a man,
Well, it still lingers deep down in my soul;
I said, it still lingers deep down in my soul.

I'm talkin' 'bout: this train is bound to glory - this train;
This train is bound to glory - this train;
This train is bound to glory,
O dis 'ere train carry no un'oly.
This train - I'm a-talkin' 'bout: this train.

c. CORNERSTONE

The stone that the builder refuse
Will always be the head cornerstone-a;
The stone that the builder refuse
Will always be the head cornerstone.

You're a builder, baby;
Here I am, a stone.
Don't you pick and refuse me,
'Cause the things people refuse
Are the things they should choose.
Do you 'ear me? Hear what I say!

Stone that the builder refuse
Will always be the head cornerstone-a;
The stone that the builder refuse, yeah! -
Will always be the head cornerstone.

You're a builder, baby;
Wo, here I am, a stone!
Don't you pick and refuse me,
'Cause the t'ings people refuse
Are the things they should use;
The things people refuse
Are the things they should use.
Do you 'ear me? Hear what I say!

Stone dat them builder refuse
Will always be the head cornerstone-a;
The stone that dem builder refuse
Will always be the head cornerstone.

d. COMMA COMMA

Comma, comma, come back here,
My-y young lady;
Comma, comma, come back here to me,
My-y young lady, yeah!
Jus' while I thought
Everything was running smooth,
She left me
While I was in the mood.
Now I'm callin' to you,
But my world is relying for you to:

Comma, comma, come back here,
My-y young lady, yeah!
Comma, comma, come back here to me,
My-y young lady!
Jus' while I thought
Everything was running smooth.
You know I love you;
Oh now I love you. /fadeout/

e. DEWDROPS

Mm-mm-hm.
I've been searchin' the whole darn day
For a little woman of mine - mine - mine - mine.
Someone a-told me I could find her here,
But it seem she disappear.
Said, I searched the whole darn day;
Night is drawing nigh.
I t'ink I'd better go home;
Try tomorrow again.

But when I reached that railroad station,
I missed the last train,
And then it seemed like dewdrops
Gonna fall on me;
Yes, it seem like teardrops
Gonna call on me now.

I said, I'd better make up my mind
What am I gonna do.
Am I gonna rest up here,
Or am I gonna push on through?

My mind say, "Hey, man, ya hit the road."
Down there I missed the track - track - track;
I'm lost! Lord, I'm lost, eh!
Love is such a heavy load!

And then: for crying out loud, come back to me!
For crying out loud, hear my plea!
For crying out loud, come back to me!
Why do you treat me so bad?
Why do you treat me so bad?
Mm - mm - mm - mm - bam, bam.
Bom, bom, bome, bome.

f. STIR IT UP

Let's stir it up!
Stir it up, little darlin';
Stir it up. Yaga, yaga.
Little darlin', stir it up. Mm.
Little darlin'.

It's been a long, long time
Since I've got you on my mind, o-oh.
Now you are here
It's so clear:
See what we could do,
Just you and me, yea-eah!

Let's stir it up!
Little darlin', stir it up!
Oh, come on, woman!
Little darlin', come on! Stir it up. ...
Little darlin'.

I'll push the wood, blaze the fire;
Satisfy your heart desire.
I'll a-stir it, yeah - every minute, yeah!
All you got to do, honey, Keep it in it.

Let's stir it up!
Little darlin', let's stir it up!
Little darlin', stir it up!
Oh, wo - wo - wo - wo-ah, li'l darlin'. Lead up now.

g. I'M HURTING INSIDE

When I was just a little child,
'Appiness was there awhile.
Then from me it slipped one day:
'Appiness, come back, I say,
'Cause if you don't come - come,
I go looking, yeah! -
For 'appiness.
'Cause if you don't come - come,
I go looking now! -
For 'appiness.

Then together like school children,
Then your hurt was just in vain.
Lord, I'm your weary child:
'Appiness, come back. Oh, I -
'Cause if you don't come
Gonna go lookin', yeah! -
For 'appiness.
And if you don't come,
Gonna go lookin', yeah! -
For 'appiness.
Like Jah said, I'm a-hurtin' inside;
I'm a-hurtin' inside.

Green Beret David Christian was unquestionably a war hero in the Vietnam war and as he says, fought valiantly on behalf of the USA. My team and I conducted more than 200 interviews in 1989 from people who had lived through the 1960s and had strong feelings about what they had witnessed and lived through, not only during the war, but in the 1950s growing up and in the time since that war has ended. David Christian was wounded 7 times receiving 7 purple hearts as well as the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism. When he returned from the war, he worked as he does today, to help Vietnam veterans. Bill Ehrhardt, who presents his story in my very popular video clip, “Magnificent Storyteller Soldier” shared his personal experience. Many of my subscribers have reacted to it. I feel that David Christian is an equally powerful storyteller whose war perceptions and experiences were quite different. In this video he reflects on his early upbringing in the 1950s, his Catholicism, his powerful relationship with his mother, his experiences with college protesters in the antiwar movement, his return to America and his battles to help his fellow veterans deal with PTSD, job opportunities and other issues that they have confronted. His story evolves during the interview as he expresses more and more deeply, how he felt and what he saw and how he dealt with it.

Activist and fundraiser Dan Pallotta calls out the double standard that drives our broken relationship to charities. Too many nonprofits, he says, are rewarded for how little they spend -- not for what they get done. Instead of equating frugality with morality, he asks us to start rewarding charities for their big goals and big accomplishments (even if that comes with big expenses). In this bold talk, he says: Let's change the way we think about changing the world.

Naomi McAuliffe (Poverty and Human Rights Campaign Manager, Amnesty International UK) advocates that good activism requires a balanced approach and using the right technology, not just popular technology.

Naomi manages 'Demand Dignity', Amnesty's Poverty and Human Rights Programme in the UK which includes campaigns on the right to housing, health and livelihood internationally, Corporate Accountability and campaigning against discrimination of Gypsy Roma Travellers. As the global priority campaign, Amnesty is exploring how digital activism, among other things, can be used by activists in the global south; including the opportunities, challenges and impacts of this. Naomi managed the 'Make Shell Come Clean' campaign which sought to address the impact of the oil industry in the Niger Delta and deployed a number of social media and online tools. In her spare time, Naomi also blogs and is an avid Tweeter.

Summary of Naomi's position:

"Social media is undoubtedly a useful activist tool but certainly we need to be realistic about its impact and see its role together with other forms of activism and the context its operating in. Facebook and Twitter were used by many to organise in Egypt in January this year, yet it was the people on the streets who brought about the revolution. Plus it is important to consider who has access to digital activism and what role do they have in social change - this returns a very mixed picture and one that no one can claim to be wholly positive or wholly negative."
